College Placement Assessment
College Placement Assessment measures a students’ literacy skills.
All post-secondary programs (except post-graduate, degree programs, Carpentry, Cabinetmaking, Food Preparation and Administration des affaires – Marketing Automobile) require students to complete testing in Communications (reading comprehension, sentence punctuation and grammar). The results of this assessment determine which Communications course a student takes first. It should be noted that to complete Communications assignments, students require a working knowledge of a word processing software package.
There is a $30 fee for the test. The Office of the Registrar will advise students of where and when it may be written. The test will generally be written at the campus to which the student has applied. Special arrangements may be made for students from outside the province.
Requests for exemptions from testing may be made by completing a Request for Assessment of Previous Learning form (see section 3.3, Assessment of Previous Learning, for more information). These forms are available at the Office of the Registrar.
Official scores from other institutions may be used to fulfill the College testing requirement providing the scores are current and that the test taken is deemed equivalent to Georgian College’s.
