Application Process
Students applying to full-time studies at Georgian College must submit a completed application to the Ontario College Application Service (OCAS). There is an $95 application fee payable to OCAS (subject to change without notice).
Applications may be submitted online at the OCAS website at ontariocolleges.ca or can be mailed to:
Ontario College Application Services
60 Corporate Court
Guelph, ON N1G 5J3
Telephone: (519) 763-4725
Toll-free: (888) 892-2228
Part-time students at Georgian College who are interested in applying for full-time studies must follow the OCAS admission process. Part-time student status does not provide preferred access to a full-time program. New students to Georgian wishing to apply for Advanced Standing must also apply through OCAS.
Deadlines
Applicants are urged to submit their forms as early as possible since some programs may require the applicant to take part in an information session, complete a résumé or upgrading.
For limited enrollment or quota programs beginning in the Fall semester, applications received by February 1 will be considered equally. Applications received after that date will be considered on a first-come, first-served basis while space is available.
For information on application deadlines for programs scheduled to start in the Winter or Summer semesters, please see the OCAS guidebook or contact the Office of the Registrar.
Applying after February 1st
Applications received after February 1 will be processed on a first-come, first-served basis. To find out which programs are still accepting applications, applicants may call the OCAS Program Vacancy Service for information about which programs are still open, which are closed and which are taking applicants on a waiting list.
Contact the OCAS Inquiry Line at (519) 763-3377 or toll-free at 1-888-892-2228 or visit the OCAS website at www.ontariocolleges.ca.
Mature Applicants (Post-secondary Diploma Programs)
Applicants who are 19 years of age or older by the first day of classes and who lack the academic entrance qualifications may be considered for admission to an appropriate post-secondary diploma program as mature applicants (please see exceptions listed below).
Mature applicants will be considered on an individual basis. Please note that applicants lacking program prerequisites may be admitted part-time on a probationary basis and will be required to achieve a GPA of 60 per cent after completing six credit courses.
Waiting Lists
Qualified applicants who are not initially accepted may be placed on a waiting list. An admission selection procedure will be used to establish which applicants will be placed on the list and in what order they will appear. Applications received after February 1 are considered on a first-come, first-served basis.
Criminal Records Check
The Great Lakes International Marine Training Centre has a co-op work placement component within their curriculum. Students may be required by employers to provide a current criminal records check from a recognized police service before they may start their work placement. Individuals who have been convicted criminally and not pardoned may be prohibited from proceeding to a work placement.
Accordingly, if a student is registering in a program with a work placement component, it is the student’s responsibility to ensure that he or she is eligible to participate. Further, the College assumes no responsibility for these matters and students should be aware that tuition will not be refunded in the event that access to a placement course is denied.
Students should also be aware that some professions and licensing boards also have a criminal records check provision to ensure suitability to practise in the profession. Accordingly, it is recommended that students who have a criminal record contact the appropriate professional association or licensing agency prior to starting their College studies.
The costs associated with the provision of the criminal records check are to be borne by the student.
Offer of Admission (Acceptance Letter)
Applicants will be notified of their acceptance in an offer of admission letter from the College:
- For programs that start in the Fall semester, acceptance letters are mailed out on or before March 31.
- Applicants have until May 15 to confirm the offer through OCAS, which will reserve a space for them in that program.
OCAS will notify the College about the choice the applicant has made.
An applicant may confirm only one offer of admission to OCAS. Applicants who do not respond before May 15 may forfeit their place in the program to students on the waiting list.
After May 15, applicants will have 10 working days to respond to an offer of admission.
Applicants may be conditionally accepted, pending fulfillment of requirements stated in the program outline. All conditions must be met before final acceptance is granted. Once acceptance is granted, applicants will be required to pay or defer their fees by the fee deadline. For more information, see section 3.1, Tuition and Other Fees.
